Despite the fact that there are hundreds of different types of poker games, many of them share some common features. The rules of a typical poker game are based on the same fundamentals. However, the variations that exist are often based on card configuration, the number of players, and betting options. Typically, poker games have two or more rounds of betting.
The first round is referred to as the “deal”. The dealer deals cards to each player one at a time. Depending on the variant of the game, the cards may be dealt face up or face down. In some variations, a deck is used, and players can use only four cards.
The second round of betting occurs after the flop. This round is usually done clockwise. A player may choose to bet, raise, or fold. If the player chooses to bet, he must match the bet of the player to his left.
The third round of betting occurs after the turn and river. A player may choose to bet, check, or fold. If a player chooses to check, he may no longer compete for the pot. If a player chooses to fold, he must discard his hand.
The best poker hand is considered the “trip sevens”. This is the best possible hand at any given moment. Typically, players only fold weak hands. However, if a player makes an all-in bet prior to the final round of betting, a poker hand may reach the showdown.
