No other casino movie has done as good a job of capturing the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas than Casino. It is not for the faint of heart, but it is riveting from beginning to end. Almost three hours long, it never lags or runs out of steam. This is largely due to masterful editing and taut narrating. It also helps that Casino features one of the best casts in recent cinema history. Robert De Niro shines as the vicious gangster Don Santoro while Sharon Stone captivates as the blonde hustler Ginger McKenna. Joe Pesci adds to the tension with his performance as a menacing low-level mobster.
Because of the large amounts of money involved, casinos are susceptible to cheating and stealing by patrons and staff. Booze is also served nonstop to lower inhibitions and cloud judgment. This combination can lead to players attempting to rig poker or slot machines in collusion with other patrons, or even individually. The temptation to steal is further fueled by the fact that most casinos offer big bettors free spectacular entertainment, meals, transportation and luxurious living quarters, and lesser bettors reduced-fare transportation, hotel rooms and free drinks.
Keeping this in mind, it is important for casinos to have security measures in place and staff that can deal with issues quickly and effectively. In addition, a casino should offer multiple deposit and withdrawal methods including digital payment apps. These can dissociate gambling from spending real cash, making it more difficult to succumb to the sunk cost fallacy.
